Ego and Addressing the “What happened?” Question

Part of an asynchronous conversation about getting cut and recruited

Previous take that I’m responding to involved:

Players parrot the one thing the coach says when they get cut as hope for the ego-self. The player clings to this hope to tell his friends and family…

Coaches don’t cut ‘great potential’ or ‘great players’.

So if you were what they say sandwiched between all the reasons they cut you, they wouldn’t have cut you.

You leave with a message far different than the one you were told to save face.

The biggest truth bomb the coach gave me in the lead-up to my above audio response was this,

“If I see a good player somewhere, you know what I don’t forget to do… I don’t forget to recruit him or sign him.”

He then speaks about a recruit double-texting him that they aren’t super high on. He says if a coach isn’t concerned on their end that they are texting the player too much, then they aren’t as interested as you(the player) think they are.

That’s all the context you’ll need to listen to my response above.
